There is a new lab publication in Biogeochemistry available online now! Carla and Brian are both authors along with Dr. YueHan Lu from the Geology Dept at UA. This paper describes particulate and dissolved organic materials and nutrient concentrations in an unmodified river, the nearby Sipsey River. The Sipsey has a broad floodplain that acts as a source of DOM to downstream reaches while also disrupting the movement of particulate materials downstream from the headwaters. We hope this serves as a base for studies into this uniquely unmodified river and its associated floodplain!
Even with the big game (National Championship) a couple of days away, the official Facebook for the University of Alabama highlighted the upcoming work in the lab that is in collaboration with Jeff Lozier (UA), Colin Jackson (Ole Miss), and Ryan Garrick (Ole Miss). We are in the process of hiring students and postdocs. Can't wait to get started!
