Dr. Atkinson traveled to Marion, AL to assist with a release of endangered mussels back into the Cahaba River. She helped Dr. Paul Johnson and his team place lab propagated Epioblasma penita (Southern combshell) back into the Cahaba River.  It's great to see this recovery effort!

Dr. Carla Atkinson and master's student, Brian van Ee went to Oklahoma to help out with the biogeochemical hotspot project that is in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma and Kansas State University. Field work is being conducted in the Kiamichi and Little Rivers of southeast Oklahoma. The water has been high in that part of the country which made for some challenging field work. Here is a video of us deploying nutrient diffusing substrates (NDS) and a few photos from the field.
